Parents who fully pay for child care themselves will still be compensated for the period when they were unable to take their children to daycare due to the corona crisis.

Due to the corona crisis, child care centers were temporarily closed in the spring for most children. At the time, the Cabinet called for childcare to continue to be paid and promised that all parents would be compensated. Most parents got that compensation without any problems, but for some three thousand parents it remained unclear for months whether they too would get their money back.

These are parents who do not receive child care subsidies. Almost all parents who bring their children to child care or a host parent receive child care subsidies, regardless of their income. But in specific situations that right expires, for example, if one of the parents is not working, such as due to disability.

BOinK, the interest group for parents in child care, is very pleased that parents will still receive the corona compensation. “We had a long fight for this that took a lot of energy, but in the end we succeeded,” chairman Gjalt Jellesma told NU.nl.

Exactly how and when parents will get their money back is still being worked out.
